Wine Routes

Piemonte’s wine routes pass through areas of outstanding natural beauty, steeped in history and significance for the local community. There are of course a number of vineyards and wineries belonging to single firms or consortiums, open to the public, too. These firms can add to the visitors’ experience by making it possible to visit the areas or enjoy browsing in places selling wine and local goods, as well as promoting hospitality offered by local holiday farms and educational centres.

1 - Wine Route in Alto Monferrato is the first modern wine route in Piemonte, exploring local products, famous wines and unknown specialties. The route crosses a variety of dazzling landscapes dotted with castles and other historical buildings in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere that makes for a marvellous holiday or short stay, filled with opportunities to get to know local history and culture, folklore and culinary traditions, music and wines.

2 - Wine Route Astesana without doubt embraces the most fertile part of the province of Asti; with over 50 towns and villages just a few kilometres from each other, it is a great place for short drives or even walks. These lands, home to Barbera and the aromatic Moscato and Brachetto wines, produce over a third of Piemonte’s wines. Sparkling “spumante” wine was first developed here and the area is famous for its extraordinary “grappa” or clear liqueurs. It is also home to the only DOC label goat’s cheese in Italy, as well as its legendary vegetables and the most fragrant truffles in the region. This route has taken the old name of “Astesana” (from Asti) which is now a guarantee and safeguard for eight different trails, all of them using quiet, minor roads that offer splendid panoramic views from hilltops, hills which locals like to call “hills of quality”, to show their pride in the exceptional nature of the countryside and its produce.

3 - Wine routes in the Canavese area - A journey to discover the vineyards growing on mountain slopes or near the Serra d’Ivrea, set amid castles, churches, and sanctuaries that are stunning examples of Romanic and Baroque art. The three itineraries will allow visitors to discover wines from the Canavese area, Erbaluce di Caluso, Carema, and Canavese, absolute gems from the finest Italian winemaking tradition.
