GENERAL INFORMATION
Piemonte, with its 8 provinces, is the largest Italian region after Sicily. There are numerous ski resorts, paradise for those who love winter sports and nature.These resorts are located in the impressive Alpine mountains, that occupy 41% of the regional territory and were hosts to the Olympic Winter Games in 2006. The region is well-known internationally for its production of high-quality wines and gastronomic delights.
Piemonte is also a flat country, in fact it is the European capital of rice. It is also a land of great lakes, namely Lago Maggiore and Lago d’Orta, two vast blue mirrors, that occupy the northeast part of the region. However, these incredible natural attractions of Piemonte should not detract from the important artistic-cultural heritage that includes magnificent mansions, royal residences, churches, castles, cities with thermal springs, and destinations for religious tourism. Such charms unveil the side of Piemonte that is able to satisfy the needs of even the most discerning travellers.
